CT City aim to retain top talent

Cape Town - Cape Town City boss John Comitis says the club are committed to keeping their best players despite some top performers moving away in recent seasons.

At the end of 2016/17, their captain at the time and leading scorer Lebogang Manyama departed for Konyaspor in Turkey while prolific winger Aubrey Ngoma joined Mamelodi Sundowns last December.

Despite star defender Robyn Johannes having recently departed for Bidvest Wits, Comitis insists that in future the Citizens will endeavor to hold on to their top talent.

He told the SowetanLIVE website: "Whoever I'm signing, I'm trying to sign them for five years. Players must know we are trying to build something here.

"We are not here for everybody to camp and pinch our players at the end of the season. We are here to do serious business and we can give the big boys a run for their money."

The team owner said he was also happy with the performance of coach Benni McCarthy, who is now a UEFA Pro License holder.

He added: "Yeah, I think he's been great...He's felt his way around and near the end, there was a bit of a rhythm and all of a sudden, a consistent starting-XI."
