Cape Town - Jomo Cosmos struck a late winner to claim a 2-1 win over Platinum Stars in what was a dead-rubber matchup in the promotion/relegation play-offs.
In what was a meaningless encounter, with Black Leopards already promoted to the Premiership, Cosmos hit the front in the 10th minute with Lefa Hlongwane slotting home with a superb left-footed strike which left the goalkeeper with little chance.
Letsie Koapeng came close to a leveler though he saw his 15th shot minute sail over bar. With that said, Hlongwane nearly completed his brace when his next effort hit the outside of the post.
Just before the break, Roger de Sa's men were awarded a penalty and had the chance to hit back, but Koapeng was denied by a top save from goalkeeper King Ndlovu.
However, the player who missed the spot-kick made up for his blunder just a minute into the second period as he hit a long-range strike past Ndlovu, who may have done better with his attempted save.
Stars showed admirable character given they were already relegated yet their resolve was broken deep into the closing stages.
Tebogo Tlolane stole into space in a dangerous area, with time ticking down in stoppage time, before smashing home to ensure Ezenkosi ended second in the play-off race behind the promoted Leopards.
