Cape Town - Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has confirmed the club is interested in signing Haashim Domingo, who starred for Vitoria de Guimaraes B this past season.
Domingo, formerly of Ajax Cape Town, scored four goals for the Portuguese club.
Although Comitis is keen on the 22-year-old midfielder, he claims not to be alone in the race to sign him.
After City's fifth-place finish in 2017/18, Comitis has been left frustrated in his efforts to bring new players into the club.
"We are busy trying to get signings but trying and getting them are two different things. I'm perturbed a bit, because nothing is happening," he admitted to EWN Sport.
"Nobody is reacting, but we have our targets set for one or two players, and hopefully we can complete them by June."
On Domingo, Comitis said: "We did make an attempt to see if we can engage Haashim Domingo, however, there are a few uncertainties with Haashim. We don't know how he would be at the top flight. I think he is a great player."
Apart from that, Comitis claimed the Citizens face competition from Bidvest Wits, who recently snapped up their skipper, Robyn Johannes.
"There are no such things as trials with players coming back from Europe and unfortunately, we are also competing against Bidvest Wits," he said.
Apart from Domingo, City have also been linked with goalkeeper Emil Velic.
Comitis will be hoping to land at least some of his targets before the new season begins.
