Clever Boys want Hunt to stay

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits chairman Brian Joffe is determined to retain the services of title-winning coach Gavin Hunt.

Hunt saw his team beating Polokwane City 2-0 last week to ensure the Johannesburg-side won the league title for the first time.

This after he guided them to second and third-placed finishes over the last two seasons, also winning the 2016 MTN8 final.

Hunt also claimed the league title three times while in charge of SuperSport United.

It's reported that the Cape Town-born coach is in the final few months of a four year contract.

But Joffe says there is no ways the club will let Hunt leave if they can help it.

"He's staying because he's got a contract with us. If he goes away, I will fetch him," Joffe told the SowetanLIVE website.

The Clever Boys boss also revealed how last week's achievement was over a decade in the making.

"We are proud of the players to achieve this. It's a great moment - a first (title) in over 90 years. Immediately after we (Bidvest) got involved, we were relegated (in 2005), but we bounced back strongly the following year.

"From the time Gavin got involved with us the team has been building and it cost us money but there has been progress. We should have won it (the title) the season before but we were unlucky," he added.

Hunt also suggested he's likely to stay with the Students.

"This is a good time to talk about a contract isn't it? Get the board members some whiskey after winning the title and we can talk," he jested.
