Clever Boys ready to stifle Sundowns

Cape Town - Improving Bidvest Wits face a challenging test against Mamelodi Sundowns in Tuesday's Premiership clash at the BidVest Stadium in Johannesburg.

The Students beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals on Sunday with James Keene netting the winning strike, while Xolani Mlambo was named Man-of-the-Match for his performance.

Despite the victory against an in-form Amakhosi, Mlambo believes that nothing can be taken for granted against a talented Brazilians team coached by Pitso Mosimane.

"Hopefully, Lady Luck will be on our side again," Mlambo said. "It's never easy playing teams like Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates. You always have to fight, grind or whatever it takes to get a win."

Wits are in 15th position after a difficult start to the season blighted by injuries, though they are showing signs of improvement.

Meanwhile, Sundowns are in eighth place after losing three of their last five games in all competitions.

In team news, Egypt international Amr Gamal could play an influential role after scoring five goals for the Clever Boys in 2017/18, with three of those coming in the Telkom Knockout.

For the visitors, Mosimane has virtually a full-strength squad to call upon with the exception of Cuthbert Malajila and Rivaldo Coetzee, who are both likely ruled out until sometime in 2018.

Kick off is at 19:30.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
