City to announce 'signing of the season'

Cape Town - Cape Town City are set to announce the "signing of the season" on Friday as the club look to strengthen their squad after an impressive maiden PSL campaign.

City have been linked with a host of names, having already made a statement with the signing of Teko Modise from Mamelodi Sundowns.

George Lebese has been previously linked to the Cape side but looks set to complete a move to Masandawana, with contract talks between the Chloorkop-based side and Khama Billiat stalling - that could mean a potential swap-deal for Lebogang Manyama.

Meanwhile coach Benni McCarthy has confirmed that Aubrey Ngoma and Judas Moseamedi will not feature in the club's opening fixture with Polokwane City.

The Citizens take on Rise and Shine in an MTN8 quarter-final clash at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

While Ngoma underwent knee surgery in the off-season, Moseamedi suffered knee damage in training.

Speaking this week, McCarthy said: "We can consider ourselves fortunate that we have just these two injuries and that the rest of the players are all raring to go."

While Ngoma's return is imminent, Moseamedi is expected to be out of action for a month at least.

City kick off their PSL campaign against Champions Bidvest Wits on Friday 18 August.

Kick off is at 15:00.
