Cape Town - Chippa United made a winning start to the new Premiership season in front of their home fans thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over AmaZulu in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday night.
Moeketsi Sekola and Abel Mabaso both scored in their first matches for their new club at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to send the hosts on their way to a satisfying three points.
Dan Malesela's side had lost their opening match of the season to Orlando Pirates and were looking to bounce back in the Eastern Cape.
They were on top for most of the game and with early chances for another new signing Kurt Lentjies and Mark Mayambela that were struck wide.
At the other end, Michael Morton saw his header diverted just over Brighton Mhlongo's crossbar after 10 minutes
Lentjies again had a chance midway through the half, but saw his effort blocked by Boalefa Pule.
The deadlock was eventually broken when good work from Mabaso and Lentjies in the build-up paved the way for Sekola to slot in from close range.
Zaphaniah Mbokoma almost doubled their advantage before the break, but saw his first-time shot from inside the box saved by Pule.
The Durbanites, who beat Free State Stars in their opening match at the weekend, failed to create any clear-cut chances after the break and saw the game effectively killed off in the 83rd minute when Lentjies played in Mabaso to blast home.
