Cape Town - Premiership champions Bidvest Wits suffered their fifth defeat of the season when they went down 2-0 at home to Chippa United on Wednesday night.
Teboho Moloi's side were nearly ahead in the fourth minute when after a goalmouth scramble, James Okwuosa's effort hit the crossbar.
The Clever Boys had their first opportunity on eight minutes when Amr Gamal's header flew inches wide. There was also an effort from Wits defender Sfiso Hlanti which missed the target, with the home team also having the last chance of the half when Vincent Pule's 44th minute shot was deflected wide for a corner.
The Students had enjoyed a bit more ball possession in the first half and this continued after the break, but apart from a Daine Klate shot which was dragged wide of the post on 62 minutes, the hosts were unable to threaten the Chippa goal.
Having wasted a gilt-edged chance a minute earlier, Samuel Julies made amends when he broke the deadlock in the 77th minute with a low shot past Darren Keet and in at the far post.
His second goal was a brilliant effort as he sent a 25-yard shot curling into the top corner to ensure victory in the 85th minute.
The visitors missed several good late chances to add further to their tally against a dispirited Wits team.
