Cape Town - Chippa United gave their survival hopes a boost as they beat an in-form Polokwane City 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Pietersburg Stadium in Polokwane.
Rise and Shine were expected to ease to victory on home soil as Chippa came into the Premiership contest having lost four matches in a row in all competitions.
Yet, the Chilli Boys were clearly fighting for their lives and hit the front in the 13th minute through a strike from Rhulani Manzini which left goalkeeper George Chigova with little chance.
With that said, Mohammed Anas responded with a leveler for Jozef Vukusic's men in the 28th minute beyond a helpless Mbongeni Mzimela.
Nonetheless, Donashano Malama struck home just before the break in the 39th minute much to the absolute delight of coach Clinton Larsen.
Incredibly, Chippa made it 3-1 in the 62nd minute much to the frustration of Vukusic who seemed to indicate his side were far below their best in the encounter.
Despite some scares and half chances for either side in the final half an hour, United were proving resilient in their defending.
There were no more goals in the contest as the away team managed to hold on to a valuable three points in their desperate efforts to avoid the drop in 2018/19.
