Chippa confirm Thabo Nthethe capture

Cape Town - Chippa United executive chairperson Siviwe Mpengesi has confirmed the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns veteran centre-back Thabo Nthethe ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Nthethe spent five seasons with Sundowns which culminated in winning the CAF Champions League in 2016.

Despite being a regular for the majority of that time, he made just one Premiership appearance in 2017/18.

Nonetheless, the experienced defender will have the chance to get more regular playing time with the Chilli Boys in the new season.

Mpengesi, speaking on the club's official website, made it clear the 33-year-old is a valuable addition to the side from Port Elizabeth.

He said: "Thabo is a player with the right characteristics and a perfect fit for the club.

"He is a defender that is comfortable with the ball. He is a leader on and off the pitch. We are delighted to have him on board.

"We have a relatively young team and we have no doubt that Thabo will share his experience positively with the rest of the squad.

"We welcome him to the Eastern Cape and wish him all the best."
