Chipeta: Clean sheets my focus

Cape Town - Erick Chipeta says his priority at Ajax Cape Town is to help his new team keep a tight ship at the back.

Ajax have lost the services of central defender Abbubaker Mobara to Orlando Pirates, while goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola departed for Reading in England.

In addition, the club has parted ways with Zimbabwean left-back Milton Ncube, while Rivaldo Coetzee will miss the start of the season due to his participation in the Olympic Games.

Zimbabwe international Chipeta, who was officially unveiled on Monday along with Joaquim Lupeta and Thabo Mosadi, could therefore find himself a key man in the Ajax defence when the season gets underway in August.

"It’s a big excitement for me especially when you know you are coming to a good club. It’s a new challenge, you always want to thrive, to go on a higher note," he told Soccer Laduma.

"I believe being with Ajax is a step (in the right direction) for me and I do believe that it’s a step towards something better.

"The only pressure that I am focusing on is always thriving for the team and to keep a clean sheet, that’s my main focus. I just want to do my best and God will do the rest," he added.
