Cape Town - Cape Town City let slip an early lead in the Premiership as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Cape Town City were the joint-top scorers in the Premiership coming into the midweek encounter and they took just eight minutes to break the deadlock and register their 17th goal.
Riyaad Norodien escaped his marker on the right to latch onto Taariq Fielies' fine through-ball and beat Peter Leeuwenburgh with a sliding finish from seven yards out.
The Citizens had hoped to build on their early lead, but instead Chippa United hit back in the 16th minute. Manzini's venomous free-kick from 22 yards out on the right caught Leeuwenburgh by surprise and flew into the bottom-left corner of the net.
City had the better chances to go back in front before half-time, but Teko Modise failed to beat Daniel Akpeyi with a rasping effort from range on the half-hour mark, before Ayanda Patosi curled a free-kick narrowly over the target in the 38th minute.
The hosts continued to push for more goals in the second half and Edmilson Dove drew a good save out of Akpeyi with a fierce strike from distance on the hour mark.
However, Joel Masutha's troops held firm at the back to keep the MTN8 champions at bay, although the draw ensured they went six games without a win in the league.
