Cape Town - Chippa United advanced to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup after defeating Polokwane City 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The last 16 encounter took place at the Chilli Boys' home ground, Nelson Mandela Stadium in the city of Port Elizabeth.

Rise and Shine were happy to sit back and launch quick counter attacks against the Chilli Boys, who were dominating possession in the early stages of the game.

A rare chance for Polokwane in the 24th minute saw Rodney Ramagalela firing wide from a one-on-one situation against Chippa goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi following good past by Walter Musona.

The visitors nearly conceded in the 43rd minute, but somehow Chippa striker Rhulani Manzini headed wide from close range and ultimately, the first-half ended goalless.

The home side dominated the second-half and they managed to break the deadlock as the Rise and Shine defence was exposed.

Buyani Sali was the man, who was fired Chippa into the lead with  Menzi Masuku grabbing an assist in the 61st minute.

Rise and Shine did try to push for the equalizing goal, but the momentum was with the Chilli Boys, who managed to double their lead.

Chippa's longest serving player Andile Mbenyane scored in the 82nd minute to make it 2-0 to the home side, who ultimately, emerged victorious on the day.
