Chigova: We fought as a team

Polokwane - Following their hard earned away point against Kaizer Chiefs earlier in the week, Polokwane City goalkeeper George Chigova praised histeam-mates for their tremendous effort citing that they deserved to win the man of the match accolade together.

The Zimbabwean’s heroics between the sticks were sufficient for Rise and Shine to snatch a point from Amakhosi in an Absa Premiership clash played at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Thobani Mncwango was on target for City on the 31st minute of the game before Eric Mathoho leveled matters for the reigning champions six minutes later.

The 24-year-old shot stopper expressed his delight on the result taking into consideration that Rise and Shine have been failing to collect points especially in their away games this season.

“I want to give all the credit to all my team-mates; we deserved this man of the match award together and not only me,” said Chigova.

“We went to the FNB stadium and fought as a team and we managed to walk away with something.

“We have been failing to collect points away from home this season; we only had one win and a draw prior to the Chiefs game.

“We sat down amongst ourselves and said to each other that this is the right time to fight.

“We need to collect points because it’s much harder to do that in the second round.”

Rise and Shine will host second placed Bidvest Wits in their next league installment at the Old Peter Mokaba stadium on March 9.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
