Chiefs win in front of Cape Town fans

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday defeated Wits 2-1 in an Absa Premiership clash played at Cape Town Stadium.

As it happened: Chiefs v Wits

Willard Katsande gave Chiefs an early lead in the 18th minute, before Daine Klate levelled matters for the Clever Boys in the 33rd minute.

Lorenzo Joao Gordinho scored the decisive goal in the 73rd minute to secure all three points for Amakhosi at their ‘adopted home’ for the evening.

The young defender’s second-half goal - the first of his top flight career - was decisive and enabled Chiefs to cut the gap between themselves and Wits to just five points, while also moving into third place on the log.

Wits' defeat means they may not end 2015 at the summit of the standings - they will be leapfrogged by Mamelodi Sundowns if the Brazilians beat Orlando Pirates on Sunday.

Chiefs will be chuffed by their performance, especially after going down to Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout final earlier in the week.

They will however be worried about an injury to forward Bernard Parker who was forced off the pitch with a knee injury. George Maluleka came off the bench to replace him shortly before the interval.
