Chiefs trigger 1-year extension for Cardoso

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have extended defender Daniel Cardoso's stay by a further year after exercising the option in his contract.

The 31-year-old's current contract was due to expire at the end of the season but Amakhosi have been sufficiently impressed by his performances to tie him down for another year.

"The club exercised the option of extending Daniel Cardoso’s contract with a further year," reads a statement on the Amakhosi website.

Aside from his defensive displays Cardoso has also contributed with four goals, which has helped Chiefs reach the Absa Premiership summit.

With regards to player contracts, Bobby Motaung revealed that the club are still in the process of evaluating which players will receive new deals and that the supporters should be patient.

He stated on the official Kaizer Chiefs website: "We are addressing other contracts. As we did in the past week, we will give an update when the time is right. We just urge and assure our supporters to be patient and focus on the remaining competitions of the season."

George Maluleka and Leonardo Castro are amongst the players out of contract at the end of the season.

Chiefs will be in action again against Royal Eagles in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 on February 8.
