Chiefs to design programme for misfiring strikers

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says he and his technical team will devise a programme to improve the finishing of the forward line.

It appears Chiefs have some work to be done in the striking department after the side managed just one shot on target in the 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

With that said, substitute Bernard Parker did miss two glaring sitters with his head in the contest although overall it seemed the finishing lacked conviction.

This is highlighted by the fact that Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro managed just one attempt on goal-a-piece in the Premiership encounter.

The Glamour Boys have scored just 18 times in the league this season over the course of 16 matches.

Middendorp told reporters as quoted by KickOff website: "I think we have to design a programme in training, that's our job as coaches. We have to go into it and really [improve] immediately in the next training session.

"We need to get the players into those situations and moments that they have in the game, and I agree with this point fully.

"But we definitely had, in the final third, not the right decisions and movements at the right times.

"I was wondering which direction the strikers were moving, sometimes closing the space for their own teammate, but we'll analyse it and go into it and try to find what has to be done better."

Amakhosi are next in action on Wednesday evening when they face leaders Wits at the Bidvest stadium.

Kick-off is from 19:30.
