Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs teenage midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has undergone successful surgery on his damaged Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the season.

Ngcobo sustained the injury blow during Chiefs' 1-1 draw with SuperSport United earlier in March.

The timing of the setback was unfortunate as the 19-year-old had just recently broken into the first team squad.

The MultiChoice Diski Challenge captain had been handed his debut by coach Ernst Middendorp against Maritzburg United on March 9 as a second-half substitute for Khama Billiat.

However, just six days later he was ruled out for the rest of the campaign against SuperSport.

The rising starlet rose to prominence for Amajita at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations and a bright future is predicted for the Pietermaritzburg-born player.

Team doctor Hashendra Ramjee confirmed Ngcobo has started the long road to recovery after undergoing surgery on 20 March.

Speaking to Amakhosi's official website, he said: "The surgery went well.

"At this stage, the focus is to recoup from the surgery before we enter the stage of recovery."

The midfielder is set to miss the approaching FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland which begins on May 23. Amajita have a tough group which includes Argentina, Portugal and South Korea.
