The 28-year-old Colombian forward, who has previously played for the likes of Cucuta Deportivo, Aguilas Doradas in his home country, joined Sundowns from Bolivian side Universitario de Sucre in 2015.

Chiefs revealed the news on their Twitter account, writing: "Breaking News: Leonardo Castro will join us in January #Amakhosi4Life. Castro is a Khosi 4 life!

“Chiefs & Sundowns have finalised the agreement and Castro will join CHIEFS in January.

“Welcome to the Castro family.”

Sundowns also confirmed the news on their official website: "Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs have reached an agreement on the transfer for Leonardo Castro to Naturena.

“The Columbian striker will join Kaizer Chiefs in January.

“Mamelodi Sundowns would like to take the opportunity to thank Castro for his contribution and wish him well at his new home.”

Castro played a total of 62 games for Masandawana, scoring 16 times, and played a pivotal role in the club's successes in recent years including the 2016/17 Premiership title while playing alongside Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly as part of their 'CBD' frontline.
