Chiefs running the rule over Mashaba

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that they are assessing former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mzikayise Mashaba in a bid to bolster their back-line.

Amakhosi assistant coach Patrick Mabedi recently stated that the Soweto giants are in a hunt for a left-back following the departures of Tsepo Masilela and Sibusiso Khumalo.

Philani Zulu was their first choice in the position during the 2017/18 campaign and currently has Letlhogonolo Mirwa as his only competitor.

Mashaba has been without a club since parting ways with Sundowns in September last year.

"We have Mzi [Mashaba] with us for training while the technical team have a look at him," Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung told the club's official website.

"We will see how it goes and a final decision on him will be made in due course. We are looking at bolstering the left side of our play.

"We know what he can offer but he has been out of action for a while and with our new coach (Giovanni Solinas) also coming in, we want to make informed decisions before finalising anything."
