Chiefs risk losing Mathoho in January

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs could risk losing defender Eric Mathoho as the player is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.

The 26-year-old has been a tower of strength at the back for the Glamour Boys in his five seasons at Naturena, but his future at Chiefs now seems less certain.

Mathoho's current deal runs until the end of June 2017, meaning he could potentially sign a pre-contract with another side in January, as he will be in the last six months of his current deal.

In addition, the player's agent, Tim Sukazi, has made no secret of the fact that he would like to try and secure a move to Europe for the talented central defender.

"It is business as usual in terms of trying to get him abroad. We believe he is ready," he said in June

A move to Monaco in France's League One has been mooted, with the agent spending some time there on 'business' earlier this year.

The Glamour Boys have reportedly made overtures to start negotiations on a new deal, although it seems at this stage that nothing concrete has materialised.

Mathoho has made four league appearances for the Steve Komphela-coached outfit in 2016/17.
