Chiefs ready to extend lead at the top log

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership standings when they host Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Chiefs will go into the clash having beaten Baroka FC 1-0 at home on Saturday as they welcomed their fifth league win in seven outings.

The victory came at a cost though as goalkeeper and captain Itumeleng Khune and George Maluleka limped out of the game injured and will not feature against Arrows.

Defender Reeve Frosler also picked up a knock in this weekend's encounter and is a doubt for the clash while forward Samir Nurkovic is still missing through injury.

Arrows head coach Steve Komphela will take on his former employers on the back of having played to a disappointing 2-2 draw against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday.

Abafana Bes'thende threw away a two-goal lead in that encounter after Zimbabwean attacker Knox Mutizwa had struck a brace in the first half.

The KwaZulu-Natal side have otherwise made a solid start the season having picked up 10 points from their first seven games to sit in seventh position.

Last season Arrows took four points off Chiefs in the teams' two league meetings, winning 2-1 at Princess Magogo Stadium in December before playing out a 1-1 draw in the return game in April.

The match kicks off 19:30.
