Chiefs missing out on MTN8 a financial blow, says Rama

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele says the club are disappointed not to be playing for the R8 million prize money available to the winners of the MTN8.

Chiefs finished outside of the top eight in 2018/19 and lost out on the opportunity to compete for one of South African football's most lucrative competitions.

As such, Mphahlele bemoaned the situation but admitted that the Glamour Boys had made peace with missing out on the action.

He told reporters: "It's there and we're not there, it's reality. So, I think we've accepted in our mind that we're not going to play MTN8.

"It's not nice because we're missing one more trophy to compete for, but there's nothing we can do about it now so we have to accept it, it's in the past now.

"It's not a blessing in disguise. We really wanted to be in the top eight and compete, and work on our game. It's also a lot of money that the club's losing out on.

"But it's difficult to win it also, because it's pre-season and teams are still shaky, trying to organise themselves. But we're not there so we can't talk about MTN8 right now."

As a result of the break for MTN8, Chiefs next game is on August 24 against SuperSport United in the Premiership.
