Chiefs 'keeper Akpeyi unfazed by Nigeria snub

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is unfazed by having been overlooked for Gernot Rohr's Nigeria squad for the friendly with Brazil.

The Super Eagles face the Seleccao on October 13 and Rohr has chosen Katsina United's Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Deportivo de la Coruna's Francis Uzoho and Fortuna Dusseldorf's Maduka Okoye as the three shot-stoppers in the squad.

Akpeyi's omission is surprising given he started five of the Super Eagles' seven games at the Africa Cup of Nations and has impressed between the sticks for Chiefs this season.

But the 33-year-old is unconcerned by the snub and is wholly focused on making the Glamour Boys' number one jersey his own.

"I'm not really looking at being motivated to be called for something. I'm just working on myself and working on my career and to get to the peak of my profession," said Akpeyi.

"If I get a call, fine. I think so far in the national team, I've played my part having been to the World Cup and Nations Cup, and from the junior to the senior.

"So, I believe I've played my part. If whatever I'm doing doesn't impress anybody then it's all about me this time."
