Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have warned the local football fraternity to be aware of a scam in which young players are offered trials with the club for a R2500 fee.

The Glamour Boys issued a statement on the club's official website advising that an individual purporting to represent the side, has been offering trials for money though he has no connection to the Naturena-based outfit.

Chiefs have also stated that they are treating the fraudulent activities with great urgency, and will leave no stone unturned to try and prevent the culprit from continuing with the criminal deeds.

A statement read: "We have been alerted to a scam where a gentleman who purports to be representing the club, has been offering so-called “Kaizer Chiefs” trials for a fee of R2500.

"The club has not issued any official communiqué or advertisement for trials or academies. We are attending to this as a matter of urgency.

"We will be involving the law enforcement agencies to take the necessary action. We strongly warn the public not to fall victim to these acts of crime.

"It is unfortunate that these acts will escalate during the school holiday period targeting desperate, hopeful soccer stars.

"The club will communicate officially through its channels if there are trials to be held."
