Chiefs held at home by SuperSport

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs showed great levels of improvement, but had to ultimately settle for a point as they were held to a 1-1 draw by SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Amakhosi bossed most of the encounter, but were unable to capitalize on a flurry of chances in the closing stages of the first-half as the game ultimately ended in a stalemate.

SuperSport started the game the better of the two sides and eventually opened the scoring on the half-hour mark through Thabo Mnyamane - the former AmaTuks forward with a first time finish from a pin-point cross by Jeremy Brockie.

The Amakhosi, though, hit straight back through George Lebese barely a minute later. Back in the starting eleven, the Glamour Boys winger turned on the spot before firing a low shot into the back of the net.

The hosts took control from this point on with George Maluleka and Ramahlwe Mphahlele denied by former Chiefs goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse, who was making his debut for the Tshwane club.

Willard Katsande then saw his deflected effort canon off the crossbar before Bradley Grobler went close at the other end of the the pitch - the Bafana Bafana striker having the beating of Itumeleng Khune but not Lorenzo Gordinho who recovered to clear from danger.

Chiefs looked the more likely to score in the second, but in the end the two teams settled for a point apiece to sit in fifth and third on the log standing respectively.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
