Chiefs explain Khune's absence against United

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have explained that Itumeleng Khune's absence from the team that beat SuperSport United 1-0 on Wednesday was due to injury.

Khune was surprisingly left out of the starting line-up for what was coach Ernst Middendorp's first game in charge in his second stint with the Glamour Boys.

According to the Amakhosi website, all is well at Naturena as Bafana Bafana's number one simply missed out due to injury.

"Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Mulomowandau Mathoho are both out with a long-time injury, while Itumeleng Khune has a cut to his hand and is therefore left out of the squad," the club revealed.

Meanwhile, Virgil Vries came in for the 31-year-old and produced a solid display against United.

It is unclear how long Khune will be out of action and whether he will be available for the side's final two matches of 2018 against Elgeco Plus in the CAF Confederations Cup.

In 2018/19 campaign, Khune has once again been the undisputed starter for Amakhosi making 17 appearances in all competitions.
