Chiefs closing in on Akumu signing

Cape Town - Talk of a move to Kaizer Chiefs for Anthony Akumu have intensified after the Kenyan midfielder was spotted in the stands during Chiefs' 3-0 victory over Highlands Park at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Akumu was released by Zambian giants ZESCO United after coming to the end of his contract. Chiefs have been heavily linked with a move for the 27-year-old as they look to bring in a defensive midfielder.

And it appears that Akumu is on the brink of a move to Naturena after posting pictures of himself sitting in the stands at Soccer City on his Instagram account.

If Chiefs are to get their man, they will need to offload one foreign player to make space for a quota of five, with James Kotei the likeliest candidate for release.

Ghanaian Kotei joined the club at the beginning of the season from Tanzanian giants Simba SC, but has failed to make a competitive appearance for the Amakhosi all campaign.
