Chiefs can't fall short this time around, says Maluleka

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka says new signings such as Samir Nurkovic and Kearyn Baccus are a major reason why the club are top of the Absa Premiership.

Nurkovic recently scored his first goal for the club whereas Baccus has managed a key assist as well as a goal against Cape Town City.

James Kotei is yet to make an impact with coach Ernst Middendorp saying the player is still getting up to speed physically.

In addition, Lazarous Kambole is also yet to really fire though signs are there he could start to deliver the goods in future.

Maluleka said: "If you look at the signings that were brought in, these are more experienced guys, whereby if you look at last season, there were a lot of youngsters promoted.

"So obviously you can already see the direction of the signings. We know it's been a very difficult past few seasons and that needs to change, no doubt about it. We are doing everything in our power to make sure this season changes that.

"It's very disappointing [to miss out on the MTN8] - it is. And, obviously, it's something that we didn't want as a club, but we have another season to rectify all of that.

"I think with the squad that we have, and of course the additions that came through, we can't fall short this time around."
