Celtic rue missed penalty in stalemate with United

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic missed a late penalty to be held to a goalless draw by SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership clash at Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The first half finished goalless, though Celtic will feel they should have found the back of the net at least once given the chances they created.

Perhaps the best of them fell to Musa Nyatama midway through the half, with the midfielder presented with a clear sight of goal only to shoot off target from the edge of the box.

Another good opportunity for the hosts saw Deon Hotto provide a fine cross from the left for Atusaye Nyondo to turn and shoot on target, but his effort lacked the power needed to beat Reyaad Pieterse.

Phunya Sele Sele continued to be the better team in the second half, dominating possession to force the Tshwane visitors to feed off scraps, but they struggled to create clear-cut scoring chances.

SuperSport’s forays into the danger area were few and far between, but substitute Dove Wome wasn’t far off breaking the deadlock in the 73rd minute when he sent a long range effort just off target.

Drama erupted in the last minute of regulation time when Pieterse brought down Dumisani Zuma in the box to give away a penalty. Khethowakhe Masuku took the spot kick for the hosts, but his effort hit the top of the bar and bounced away to safety.
