Celtic out to dent Chiefs' title aspirations

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic will look to dent Kaizer Chiefs’ Absa Premiership title aspirations when the teams meet at Dr Molemela Stadium on 12 April 2017, kick-off at 19h30.

Celtic are unbeaten in their last three league matches and held champions Mamelodi Sundowns 0-0 away on April 5.

The Bloemfontein side has claimed nine points from 11 home matches this season.

Phunya Sele Sele are placed 11th on the Absa Premiership log with 23 points from 22 matches.

Chiefs extended their unbeaten run in the league to 10 matches with a 2-1 home win over Mamelodi Sundowns on April 1.

The Soweto side has claimed 15 points from 10 away matches this season.

The Amakhosi are placed third on the Absa Premiership log with 39 points from 22 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Celtic and Chiefs have met in 58 league matches since 1985.

The Amakhosi have claimed 32 wins compared to 10 for Phunya Sele Sele, while 16 matches have been drawn.

Celtic have won eight of their 28 home league matches against Chiefs, suffering nine defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, they played to a goalless draw in Soweto.

Celtic have not scored against Chiefs in the league since a 2-2 draw back in 2010/11.
