Celtic grab first win against Dikwena

Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein Celtic snapped their winless run in the Premiership with a 1-0 victory over Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.

A strike from Fiston Abduol Razak before half-time secured a first win of the season for Siwelele. The precious points brought welcome relief for under pressure coach Serame Letsoaka after starting the season with three losses and a draw.

Dikwena looked to catch Celtic out in the opening minutes of the game with their speedy wingers on both flanks.

Striker Ndumiso Mabena played a supporting role for main striker Henrico Botes, who was able to hold up the ball in the opposition half.

The home side applied pressure on Celtic and it was captain Vuyo Mere on the half-hour mark who forced a save out of Celtic goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb.

Celtic midfielder Musa Nyatama did his best to try to get his team into the game and it was his through-ball in the 37th minute that found Kabelo Mahlasela, whose shot flew over the crossbar.

Moments before the interval, Siwelele grabbed the opening goal through a well taken right-foot shot from Razak in the 43rd minute. Stars went into the break with the advantage but Dikwena came out in the second half with better intension.

The home side lacked their edge in front of goal on the day after numerous attempts that just could not find the back of the net.

Celtic played the last five minutes with 10-men after defensive midfielder Lantshene Phalane was red-carded. The team absorbed the pressure and managed to hold on for the three points.
