Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic will not continue their pursuit of Kaizer Chiefs forward Siphelele Mthembu as he has been deemed too similar to players already at the club.
The former Orlando Pirates forward embarked on a trial with Phunya Sele Sele in a bid to land a contract, having fallen out of favour with the Soweto giants.
But the club's co-head coach John Maduka says that they have distanced themselves from signing the man known as 'Shaka Zulu'.
"Yes, we released him on Friday after our practice match against a selection team from Johannesburg," he told KickOff.
"After that game we did let him go. He did very well against Lesotho but the problem is that he is more similar to the strikers we have.
"Remember we have Atusaye Nyondo, Ayanda Dlamini, Fiston Abdul Razak and Moeketsi Mvula. And if you look at all those players you can see they are similar to him. We were looking for something different.
"Our search for a striker will continue, especially in this window
period but we are looking for someone who's been there before, not an
unknown," he concluded.
