Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic ended a run of three league games without victory with a late 1-0 win over Baroka FC at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday.
Celtic started the game the brighter of the two sides and after a neatly-worked move in the sixth minute of the game the ball was worked to Victor Letsoalo, whose close-range shot was well saved by Bakgaga stopper Elvis Chipezeze.
In a fast-paced contest, Baroka began to find their feet and after Talent Chawapiwa had a 13th minute effort blocked, Matome Kgoetyane fired wide from a promising position in the box, while at the other end, Celtic continued to create chances as Ndumiso Mabena fired one shot wide before having another saved by Chipezeze.
Phunya Sele Sele, with Khetowakhe Masuku and Mabena at the forefront, were playing some highly enterprising football and it took a brilliant save from Chipezeze to keep out Masuku's chipped effort in the 25th minute.
On what was a very hot afternoon in Bloemfontein, the pace of the game subsided for the remainder of the first half during which time neither team had any clearcut chances on goal.
There was little change to the complexion of the match after the restart as the two sides cancelled each other out and bar a couple of long range shots, neither goal was threatened.
The Limpopo side nearly snatched the lead against the run of play in the 82nd minute after Chawapiwa's shot cannoned off the crossbar with Patrick Tingyemb beaten.
Celtic were to make full use of their good fortune and they pressed hard for a goal which came in with the very final kick of the game as Ronald Pfumbidzai fired an angled drive in at the far post.
