Cape Town - AmaZulu striker Mhlengi Cele says the team have some breathing space from the relegation battle after defeating Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday evening.
The 30-year-old, who is Usuthu's top goal scorer in the Premiership this season with five goals, said he never had doubts they would beat the Urban Warriors to move away from the danger zone.
Cele scored the first goal in the 2-1 win over Ajax before an own-goal by Siyanda Zwane gave Cavin Johnson's side all three points.
He said the win gives the KZN club confidence going into their next league tie against Bloemfontein Celtic this weekend.
"The match was a big opportunity for us to move away from the relegation zone," Cele told SuperSport TV in the post-match interview.
"We came here knowing that it's an important match and Ajax put us under a lot of pressure from the start.
"We are feeling a bit relieved now that we won the match to open a gap with teams at the bottom of the table.
"The next game gives us another chance to progress further and finish the season in a better position.
"We were relaxed coming into the match and I was not expecting the team to panic over relegation because we had a chance to fight for the points in the field of play."
