Cavin Johnson appointed Leopards boss

Cape Town - Black Leopards have appointed Cavin Johnson as their new head coach just two days after the resignation of Luc Eymael.

Eymael's departure came as a big surprise but Leopards have moved swiftly to bring in the experienced Johnson.

Johnson was at the helm of AmaZulu earlier in the season but lost his job with Usuthu languishing at the bottom of the standings.

But now the former Platinum Stars, SuperSport United and AmaZulu coach has found a new job after Lidoda Duvha confirmed to Sowetan Live on Sunday that they had hired Johnson as their new head coach.

"Yes‚" he said‚ asked to confirm Leopards had hired their new coach.

Asked if he was happy that the club had moved so quickly to fill the void‚ Thidiela said: "That's why he's here."

He added‚ chuckling: "If I was not happy I would not be bringing him here."

Thidiela said he could not reveal any more details of the mystery "personal reasons" for Eymael leaving Leopards so abruptly.

The controversial Belgian tactician had a 50 percent win record since taking the reins just under two months ago, after replacing Lionel Soccoia in the Leopards dugout.

"I don't know what Eymael's personal reasons were‚" Thidiela said. "I only received his resignation letter and I accepted it."

Eleventh-placed Leopards face Highlands Park in their next Absa Premiership fixture on Sunday, January 5 at Makhulong Stadium.

Thidiela said Johnson will begin overseeing the team's training sessions from Monday.
