Castro hopeful Chiefs can improve defensively

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro feels that the club can start winning games if they can marry good attacking football with defensive solidity.

Amakhosi were unfortunate to relinquish a 2-0 lead against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday evening with Siwelele grabbing two quick-fire strikes inside two minutes to level matters.

Nonetheless, Castro, who assisted Khotso Malope's second goal in the contest, takes the view that shutting up shop when the Glamour Boys have the advantage in the remaining minutes could be a good idea.

He told reporters: "Really, I feel frustrated until now because we were leading the game [against Celtic], so we were supposed to also read the game and close the game.

"As the players we know inside [the pitch] what is happening, and we try, but at the end of the day I still say we can't concede goals like that because it's stupid goals.

"The last game [against SuperSport United] we also made the same mistakes in the same situation and [conceded] the same goals. So, we can't concede like this.

"We need to be more focused on our defensive job because that can draw a game like this."

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys welcome SuperSport United to the FNB Stadium on Saturday, September 1 for their MTN8 semi-final second-leg after 2-2 draw last weekend.

Kick-off is at 20:15.
