Cardoso: No disrespect to Akpeyi but Khune talks more

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has talked up the influence of club captain Itumeleng Khune after the goalkeeper made his return in the 2-0 victory over AmaZulu on Tuesday.

Khune made his first competitive appearance in 297 days when he replaced Daniel Akpeyi in the Amakhosi goal. The 32-year-old had been sidelined since December of last year with a shoulder injury.

And Cardoso is delighted to have his skipper back in the side, praising the communication and leadership skills which he brings to the team.

"I’m glad Khune’s back. In the past seasons, he’s always a leader and he helps us out quite a bit at the back," said Cardoso.

"You can see that he takes command, which helps us because he speaks from the back and that’s something we have been missing.

"No disrespect to Daniel Akpeyi or Bruce Bvuma but he talks more, and we lacked that in the last few games - he comes out, talks and helps us, and I think that’s going to be a big factor this season."
