Pirates taking 'ethical' approach to Khuzwayo recovery

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic insists the club will treat goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo in an "ethical" manner as they ease him back to action after a long-term injury.

The 29-year-old suffered a serious ankle injury shortly after joining the Buccaneers from Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the off-season, and underwent surgery in a bid to recover.

While he was expected to be back in contention by the New Year, Khuzwayo is yet to make his first-team debut for Bucs, with Wayne Sandilands the club's current first-choice stopper.

And with some of the club's fans expressing impatience with regards to Khuzwayo's recovery, Sredojevic has explained his decision to slowly ease the player back.

"We can say that he is an integral part of the team," Sredojevic is quoted as saying by Times Live.

"He is a wonderful gentlemen‚ because all of us love him and his personality‚ and his character of a good 'atmosphere-making' player.

"However‚ when it comes to the technical aspect we wanted‚ after everything that he has gone through‚ to find a bridge. And that bridge was playing in the MDC (MultiChoice Diski Challenge)‚ earning match fitness and at the same moment getting a total clearance that at the highest level of competition - the PSL and Champions League - he could assist the team."
