Keagan Buchanan says Kaizer Chiefs should be awarded the 2019/20 Absa Premiership title.
With all sporting activities in South Africa suspended, as a result of the coronavirus, and no clear indication as to when the Premier Soccer League (PSL) may resume, there have been some calls for Amakhosi to be named champions.
The French league has already been cancelled with Paris Saint-Germain handed the Ligue 1 title, while Club Bruges were Belgium's league winners.
Ajax Amsterdam though were denied the Eredivisie in the Netherlands after their league was abandoned.
The English Premier League is still hoping to complete their season, as is the PSL, and Buchanan feels the current league standings are fair.
The Maritzburg United midfielder, who joined the club from Chiefs in 2018, told the SowetanLIVE: "If you're looking at form and what we have done this season, I would say that Chiefs should win the league.
"If you ask me where we should finish - and we are sitting fifth now - I would say we deserve to finish there if they cancel the league."
He added: "We have to give them credit that they are on top of the league and they have managed to stay there for long.
"If you look at France and Belgium, they have given the league to teams on top of the table."
