Cape Town - Jeremy Brockie has admitted that waiting through eight hours and forty eight minutes of football for a Mamelodi Sundowns goal was similar to waiting for a child to be born.

The New Zealand striker finally ended his goal drought for Masandawana in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup win over Kaizer Chiefs, scoring the opening goal of the 2-1 win in the 53rd minute.

Themba Zwane doubled Sundowns' lead in stoppage time, although Bernard Parker responded with a late consolation goal.

After the game, Brockie took to Twitter to air his thoughts, writing: "To those of you that have kids and have had to wait in anticipation for 9 months to meet your baby... I had that same feeling when the ball hit the back of the net tonight."

Sundowns signed the 30-year-old from SuperSport United midway through the 2017/18 season. He had been in tremendous form for Matsatsantsa prior to the move, but has struggled to replicate it under Pitso Mosimane.

"It's unbelievable. I mean, we brought him here to score goals, and I told him, 'just keep going, keep going. You'll break the ice'. He broke the ice and he worked his socks off," said the Sundowns coach after the win over Amakhosi in an interview broadcasted on SABC 1.

"He ran for everything. I'm so happy for him."
