Brighton Mlhongo joins Bidvest Wits

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates confirmed that goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo has completed a move to Bidvest Wits after being on loan at Chippa United for the duration of the 2017/18 season.

Pirates confirmed on their website that the 27-year old had completed a permanent move to the Clever Boys where he will compete with Darren Keet for the number 1 jersey.

Mhlongo replaces the departed Moneeb Josephs who signed a three-year deal with Durban-based side AmaZulu.

"On behalf of the club, Orlando Pirates would like to wish Brighton the best of luck in his future endeavours," the club said.

The Bafana Bafana international was loaned to Chippa at the start of the season after a poor 2016/17 for the Sea Robbers in which 40 league goals were conceded and Bucs finished 11th in the standings.

During that period he managed just three clean sheets as fellow shot-stoppers Jackson Mabokgwane and Siyabonga Mpontshane were criticised for their displays in goal.

The arrival of Wayne Sandilands at the start of 2017/18 saw Mhlongo move to Port Elizabeth where he has been competing for a place in the starting line-up alongside incumbent Daniel Akpeyi.
