Booysen happy with Chiefs' defensive depth

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs centre-back Mario Booysen believes the club have plenty of options defensively and he defended coach Giovanni Solinas' rotation policy.

Chiefs have used five central defenders this campaign with Daniel Cardoso and Siyabonga Ngezana the most consistent starting pair, having played seven of 15 matches together.

Nonetheless, Booysen, who partnered with Ngezana during last Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby, takes the view that is a plus to have so many options.

He said: "I think, with the amount of quality in our backline, anyone can play at the end of the day because myself, 'Danny' [Cardoso], [Erick] Mathoho, Teenage [Hadebe] and Siya [Ngezana] can all step up, and it's up to the coach who plays.

"I think you can't question that quality. Yes, we've taken a lot of criticism but that mustn't hit our confidence because I believe you can't become a bad player overnight.

"We have to focus on the positives and, you know, we do self-introspection and we know what we have to grow on. And, like I said, you can't question the amount of quality the defenders in the team have, so we just have to keep growing."

Chiefs are set to face SuperSport United on Sunday from 15:00 in a Telkom Knockout quarter-final at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
