Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns will win a record eighth Premier Soccer League (PSL) title this season - if bookmakers are to be believed...

With seven titles to date heading into the 22nd PSL season, Sundowns are already well clear of the next most successful domestic teams - Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates with 4 titles - in South Africa.

The Brazilians, who most recently tasted success in the 2015/16 season, have been installed as 6/4 favourites by leading SA bookies, Sportingbet.

However, Pitso Mosimane's men are expected to face stiff opposition from defending champions Bidvest Wits (16/5) and Soweto giants Chiefs (15/4).

SuperSport United, now under the guidance of Eric Tinkler, are next best at 17/2, while Pirates (10/1) and last season's fairy tale side, Cape Town City FC (11/1) are the last of the realistic challengers for glory.

The 2017/18 season kicks off on Friday, August 18 when Wits host Cape Town City at the Bidvest Stadium.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
