Bloemfontein Celtic players down tools

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic players have gone on strike and downed tools in solidarity with the club's staff members who have not received their salaries for the last three months, according to reports.

The Sowetan publication reports that Celtic players refused to train on Tuesday and Wednesday and could go as far as boycotting their league game against Highlands Park on Saturday.

While the players have been paid, the staff at the club have not been receiving their salaries from as far back as January and the players has had enough.

A source within the club told the Sowetan: "Players are saying enough is enough.

"Though they've been receiving their salaries recently, they want justice for people like cleaners and groundsmen, because it's been about three months those guys have not been getting paid.

"There was no training session on Tuesday at all and today [Wednesday] there was no morning session.

"The boys [players] have told [chairperson] Max Tshabalala that if he does not pay the staff, they will not travel to Tembisa for the next match against Highlands."

Besides the game against Highlands, which is the penultimate round of fixtures in the PSL season, Celtic are also play scheduled to play Amazulu in the final game of their campaign on May 11.
