It was previously reported that Phunya Sele Sele were set to be sold to the owners of TS Galaxy and moved to Mpumalanga.
Celtic boss Max Tshabalala refuted these claims, before revealing the team are looking for investors to ensure Celtic's survival.
Free State-born Mokoena told KickOff: "Yes it's true, we are still busy with that. We are hoping to achieve that soon.
"Obviously we want to save the economy of Free State. They've invested a lot in this team and stadium. The people of Bloemfontein can't lose this club."
Mokoena, meanwhile, refused to explain just what position he would take up at Celtic.
He said: "It's everybody's dream. Celtic is huge and it's been there for over 50 years. For now we are still negotiating. I can't say as what [laughs]."
