Billiat to be spared Guinea trip

Cape Town - Good news for Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is that Callisto Pasuwa seems set to excuse Khama Billiat from Zimbabwe's trip to Guinea.

Having already qualified for the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon, there is little riding on the Warriors' final Group L match at the Sylie Nationale in Conakry on 3 September.

Apart from his commitments with the national team, the 26-year-old Billiat only missed four league matches for Sundowns last season, while also featuring prominently for his club in their recent excursions across the continent in the CAF Champions League.

It's for this reason that his national team boss is likely to let common sense prevail by allowing the former Ajax Cape Town winger to miss the journey to west Africa.

"I would say the issue of Khama is something that we are seriously looking at. The young man has not had any rest to talk about as you know that Mamelodi Sundowns were reinstated in the CAF Champions League and while the other teams were resting they were playing in the mini-league," Pasuwa was quoted as saying by The Herald.

"Now it would be too much to ask of him to make the long trip to Guinea again just as their Premiership season is starting in South Africa.

"We all need Khama to be fresh and to give us his best whenever he plays hence that time I had to start him on the bench against Swaziland at home. We need to continuously monitor these players and manage how we use them in order to get the best out of them," Pasuwa added.
