Benni: Not one of our greatest games

Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy admitted that his side did not turn up to their 2-0 loss to Wits in a Premiership match played on Tuesday.

The Citizens have a history of losing their next league game in each of the three occasions that they have played in a cup final.

However, McCarthy did not want to use the curse of the final appearance as the excuse for their poor performance, after his side that clinched the MTN8 trophy on Saturday.

“Not one of our greatest games, but to be honest I'm not sure if I can say it's the cup jinx," McCarthy told SuperSport TV in the post-match interview.

“I just felt that we were nowhere near a team that looked like wanted to win the three points.

“We were slow to everything, but I don't want to take the credit away from Wits because I think they did their homework well on us.

“They pressed us as much as we changed the side, but the players that came in know exactly what's expected of them.

“We didn't look nothing like our usual self. Wits really made it difficult and they deserved the win.”
