Benni: I should get liposuction and select myself

Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has threatened to come out of retirement if his strikers don't start to show significant improvement in cup and league matches.

McCarthy has become frustrated with a record which shows that the Citizens have scored just seven goals in their last 10 matches in all competitions, despite occupying a creditable sixth place in the Absa Premiership standings.

However, City did progress to the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-0 victory over Swaziland's Young Buffaloes last Tuesday (2-0 on aggregate), but the former Bafana Bafana hitman was not happy with a catalogue of missed chances.

"I don't know if I must maybe go for liposuction to get myself to play again, maybe that would do the trick, because maybe some of the players will be a bit embarrassed by a 40-year-old taking their place and doing unbelievably well," McCarthy told reporters.

"I back myself - I could do better than what a few of them are doing. Not that I’m talking down on my players, but this is just happening far too often - I don’t know what to say or do anymore.

"In training, every single day, it's half an hour or the whole session is focused on scoring goals, getting into good areas, cut-backs, strikers in the box... So they can't complain that they don’t get enough of it, but come game-time (shakes his head)."
