Baxter puts Lebese under the microscope

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has given his view on the sometimes temperamental nature of Chiefs winger George Lebese.

Lebese arguably enjoyed his most prolific form under Baxter when the pair worked together at the Glamour Boys from 2012 until 2015.

During that spell the club won the domestic league title twice as well as the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8.

Lebese chipped in with 14 goals in all competitions from the left wing, as Amakhosi asserted their dominance over South African football.

Baxter, who led SuperSport United to a Nedbank Cup crown last season, believes the 27-year-old relies on confidence to achieve his best form.

However, the 62-year-old warned that the player can take criticism too personally and this can affect his game.

Baxter, who put the player under the microscope for Soccer Laduma, said: "With all the talented players you have the same issues. Sometimes they know their talent and disappoint themselves because they know they should be doing better."

He added: "When they know that but aren't doing better, then that can be a bigger blow than other people criticising them. I think he takes other people's criticism too harshly, or he's too hard on himself. That knocks him out of balance."

Lebese endured some indifferent form for Chiefs during the second-half of last season, and many will no doubt be expected of him in 2016/17 under Steve Komphela.
